From 1 April 2023 extraordinary opening of the Torre Moresca of Villa Torlonia
After the opening of the Serra Moresca to the public at the end of 2021, the Torre Moresca has now been returned to the city and to the enjoyment of Romans and tourists alike. This evocative and imposing construction, together with the Serra Moresca, constitutes the architectural complex with its arabesque lines, designed around 1839 by architect Giuseppe Jappelli for Prince Alessandro Torlonia, inspired by the Alhambra in Granada.
From 1 April to 24 June, every Saturday it is possible to visit the two floors of the Torre Moresca and relive some of the charm and awe that must have impressed the few and privileged guests of Prince Torlonia, who were invited to an unexpected lunch.
In the highest room of the Tower was in fact a sumptuous dining room, characterised by large windows with cast-iron frames and coloured glass and walls richly decorated with polychrome stuccoes. The room had a sofa in the centre that could be lifted up to the ceiling by the action of a hidden mechanism, at the same time raising a laid table, prepared in the meantime, into the kitchen below.
The initiative is promoted by Roma Culture, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, with the museum services of Zètema Progetto Cultura.
The Torre Moresca can be visited with compulsory reservation by the Friday before the event by calling the 060608 call centre (open every day from 9.00 to 19.00), purchasing at the same time the entrance ticket to the Serra Moresca (€4 full price, €3 reduced, + €1 presale), also through the call centre.
The visit is all free for valid MIC card holders, but telephone booking remains compulsory.
From 1st April to 24th June, every Saturday, visitors can enter at at 10.40 - 11.20 - 12.00 noon - 15.20 - 15.40 - 16.20; a guide provided by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali will lead the visit.
Individual visits SOLD OUT for Saturday 8 April 2023.
Groups with their own guide can enter at 10.00 - 12.20 - 13.00 - 15.00 - 17.00 - 18.00, always with previous reservation at 060608.
Due to its particular morphology, the Moorish Tower can accommodate no more than 20 visitors per shift.
The maximum duration of the visit is 20 minutes.
The visit to the Torre Moresca takes place along a path with 42 steps and is therefore not suitable for people with severe motor difficulties.
At the end of the visit to the Tower, the public may continue their visit to the Greenhouse on their own or leave the complex.
